Japan

The Australian Government has offered to fly home Australians on the Diamond Princess cruise ship in quarantine in Yokohama on 19 February. The Government has written to the Australian passengers setting out the arrangements and conditions of the assisted departure, should they choose to accept the offer. These include agreeing to a period of up to 14 days of quarantine in Darwin. The Australian Embassy in Tokyo will continue to provide consular assistance to Australians remaining in Japan. Australians on the Diamond Princess who do not take the charter flight on 19 February will not be able to return to Australia until 4 March 2020. These measures have been taken to reduce the risk of the virus emerging, establishing itself or spreading in Australia. The health and safety of all Australians is the Government’s highest priority.

Exercise normal safety precautions in Japan overall.

Reconsider your need to travel to the restricted areas near the Fukushima Dai-ichi power plant.
